You may remember a while back that we showcased parks in an Art Update. Well, the appearance of a city park would suggest, well you guessed it: a city! And indeed, I went looking in the Art Department and managed to get a sneak peak at some more visual development of this big track being done by Joe, one of concept artists.
Here you have concept art for some key buildings and areas that Seedlings will be interacting with. There’s a supermarket, a plaza concept, some smaller public space areas and details on a nightclub.
I asked Joe about some of the things he keeps in mind when tackling this area. As he put it himself: ‘I think it's important to design spaces around the buildings with as much care as the buildings themselves and try to build a whole city, instead of just individual pieces.’
And what limitations or things to consider when working on this? ‘Lots of limitations, but these sketches are more on the visual development side,’ Joe said. He went on to say that the idea being is to try and paint some larger ideas for open areas and then see how they can make it fit any limitations: always keeping them in mind that the goal is that the concept work is achievable in engine.
