BUG OF THE WEEK: A PILE OF BUGS AND SEEDLINGS

The idea behind this category is to show you what game development can be like - and sometimes learning about how the game breaks, offers interesting insights into how the game works. Or rather, how it’s supposed to work? Sometimes both. And sometimes we want to share funny screenshots of Seedlings being extra silly.

So let’s see what treasures our bug tracking system holds this week.

This is just what student housing is like sometimes.

These Seedlings just finished their first day at their new job, went home and went to sleep. In a pile in the hallway. Because that's clearly the most comfortable way to do it? Also, guess how many Seedlings are actually in this pile - It’s not just two!

The next bug is more of a really annoying quirk Seedlings have developed recently. Do you ever look into your full fridge, and then decide there’s nothing to eat? Or do you have a cat that just can’t eat food that’s been in its bowl for more than 10 minutes? If you said yes to any of these questions, you’ll recognize this behavior Seedlings have developed:

Hungry Seedlings, even if close to starvation, will not eat food that’s already ready to be eaten - no, they prefer to cook their own meal from scratch on the spot. Very frustrating when you want them to go on with their day and contribute to more important efforts. The problem here is one of prioritization - each action a Seedling can do is weighted differently, depending on various factors. When very hungry, eating existing food should have a higher priority than the need to cook a meal, so clearly some adjustments are needed.

Next we have an overwhelming UI bug - we represent Seedling thoughts with little thought bubbles, so you have a way of seeing what’s going on with them. What you’re not supposed to see is EVERYBODY's Seedlings thoughts…

And before you’re worried about Seedlings displaying such frightening levels of groupthink: The icon is a placeholder for lots of different things to come.

Another issue that just popped up is that it’s not possible for coworkers to fall in love with each other anymore. Someone will need to crank down the seriousness there, as Seedlings are not supposed to be robots following orders!

Is this what forbidden love looks like?
